In a perfect world, all the beautiful animals that appear before my lens for a photography session would be healthy and in their prime. However, that is not always the case, so I’m particularly honoured when a client trusts me to photograph their pet whose health is declining or is facing treatment for an illness. This was the case for Lucy who, sadly, was recently diagnosed with cancer. Her mom wanted a photo session with Lucy and her two sisters – Minnie and Mercedes – before Lucy underwent her treatment.
Lucy is the beautiful white dog and is a Bichon/Shih-tzu cross. Mercedes, the littlest one is a Yorkie. And Minnie, despite her name, is the biggest of the fearsome threesome, and is a Bichon Shih-tzu /Yorkie (a perfect mix of the other two). It was clear from the session how much all three are loved by their mom and how much the dogs all love each other. For example, if Lucy started coughing, little Mercedes would run up to her and nuzzle her, and Minnie would stand close by, keeping an eye on the situation – so incredibly sweet! Despite her illness, Lucy was a happy trooper and had a great photo session along with her canine companions. I think the three of them combined weigh less than 20 pounds, but holy smokes, the kisses they give out rival those of a giant slobbery St. Bernard! I wanted to tuck them away in my pocket and bring them home, but I’m pretty sure their human mom would have tackled me down before letting that happen. I guess I will just have to settle for the kisses.
Best of luck with your treatment Lucy. You have a wonderful family who loves your dearly and I know you will be taken care of.
